I've been spending so much time outside this summer, and it's been so lovely to hang out with friends in different places around this city. High Park is one of my favorite places to relax with friends with some food and drinks and just enjoy each other's company.
Aylin, hairstylist extraordinaire, made the most adorable flower crown for a mutual friend's baby at a wedding we both attended recently, and I really wanted to learn how to make them. Mel, from MELSAYS joined and we had a great little picnic with treats and some refreshing lemonade.
This lemonade recipe will really impress your friends without requiring too much effort. The iced cubes are actually a puree of watermelon, jalapeno, mint, and lime, and bring a simple lemonade recipe to the next level. Pack them up in mason jars for a picnic, or prep them for your next dinner party and add them to a spiked or virgin cocktail.
Homemade fizzy lemonade with watermelon jalapeño ice cubes
- 8 fl. oz. simple syrup
- 1 cup fresh lemon juice
- 5 cups cold water
- 3 cups sparkling water
- 1 jalapeño, seeded
- small bunch of mint
Mix together simple syrup, lemon juice, water, and sparkling water. Refrigerate until cold.
To make ice cubes, fill blender with watermelon cubes and add 1 jalapeño, and mint. Blend until smooth. I used my Vitamix to get a good consistency. Fill ice cube trays with mixture and freeze.
When I made these ice cubes, I also used some of the watermelon mixture to make a really tasty (and boozy) drink. Check out my Instagram for the recipe.
